Carbon Monoxide Alarm

carbon monoxide alarm next to fire extinguisher in v-berth

Our boat did not come with a carbon monoxide alarm, and with our older engine and some exhaust issues, I decided it was time to add one.

I debated where to install. I could put one near the engine, but I was afraid I would get too many false alarms. Since the point is to determine when a person might be effected, I figured somewhere in the main salon or v-berth made the most sense. In the end I chose to put it on the wall of the v-berth.

There are many cheap home units out there, but I decided to go with one designed for the marine environment and with smarts to determine when the levels are actually dangerous. To simplify the installation, I chose the battery operated version from Fireboy-Xintex.

Installation was easy, just two screws to mount it.
