The original cable run from the shore power plug to the A/C panel had several issues. First it only used 14g wire. If we ran two small space heaters in the cabin, the voltage would drop low enough that our charger would raise an alarm. Also, the ground wire connected directly to the plug, so we had no protection from stray ground currents. So I decided to fix both issues at the same time.
First, I replaced the wire with 8g triplex from the plug in the port lazarette to the new panel. I reused the old wire to provide a home run from the panel to the battery charger instead of running it off the back of the galley outlet. Now it can have its own breaker on the panel, which is handy when trying to work on the DC systems.
While I was at it, I inserted a galvanic isolator between the ground wire on the plug and the new cable to the panel.
